International educational activities

Erasmus+ @postasis: Virtual Artistic Laboratory” program (2017-2020) aims to develop a creative space enabling the development of multiuser educational artistic sessions with real-time experimentations, collaborative artistic projects, large-scale participatory events and actions for the general public (e.g. workshops, exhibitions), in virtual and in physical space. The program is coordinated by Athens School of Fine Arts (Scientific coordinator: Prof. Manthos Santorineos).

A technological platform, the @postasis platform, is being developed enabling the configuration of multiuser educational sessions in the interconnected physical and virtual space, throughout the globe. Based on this platform, a series of experimental courses and workshops are proposed by the partners, in collaboration with other interested stakeholders.

I am involved in overall project coordination of actions, in collaboration with Manthos Santorineos and especially in the coordination of technological development of the @postasis platform. In the scope of the Alien project (see PROJECTS) i am focusing on aspects of transferring programming concepts to the multiuser space of @postasis platform. Based on this, i am preparing an experimental course, which will be released under an open license after the end of the project, as all materials produced in @postasis.

Erasmus Intensive Programme and Summer Universities (2004-2010), a series of 10-days workshops that have taken place in Greece and France, in the Annex of Athens School of Fine Arts in Delphi (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010) and in the premises of Paris-8 in Paris (2008, 2011), correspondingly. They have been organized by Multimedia – Hypermedia Laboratory of Athens School of Fine Arts (scientific director: Prof. Manthos Santorineos) in collaboration with the Department of Art & Technology of the Image of Paris-8 University (scientific director: Prof. Marie-Hélène Tramus).

The participants were students and professors from the following universities: the Multimedia-Hypermedia Laboratory of the Athens School of Fine Arts, the Department of Art and Technology of the Image of the University Paris-8, the Department of Sculpture of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Master in Visual Arts and Multimedia), the Tourcoing School of Fine Arts, the School of Fine Arts of the University of Shangai, the Digital Studios of the Goldsmiths University of London, and the School of Arts and New Media of the University of Hull (as external observers).

The aim of those workshops was to investigate the potentials of defining a suitable virtual space for artistic distance collaboration.
I have very actively participated in all experimentations with different technologies and architectures, mostly with collaborators from Paris-8 University, and i have contributed to the development of different platform prototypes.

The most important outcomes of those activities have been the establishment of the Greek-French Master “Art, virtual reality and multiuser systems of artistic expression” between Athens School of Fine Arts and Paris-8 University, and, later on the Erasmus+ @postasis proposal.
