Αlien project in @postasis
State
Ongoing (2018-present)
Concept
The Ξένος (Alien) project is a proposal for an experimental seminar in the @postasis mutiuser platform, initiated by Manthos Santorineos and developed collaboratively by partners in different countries. The objectives of this project – experimental seminar is to enable different participants (e.g. students, teachers, artists, programmers, researchers) to work from distance and collaboratively create virtual entities (e.g. avatars, NPCs, IoT mechanisms) that co-exist in the multiuser space of @postasis. The Alien space can be visited by anyone from anywhere in the globe and can be observed in god’s view or first person view.
Educational approach
The Alien space and the @postasis platform and tools provide, among others, an educational framework for teaching visual art students how to transfer programming concepts to a virtual space. In this context, I have been investigating how this framework can help students to get equally engaged to teamwork and sharing, but also to individual work and deepening. This approach is described here.
The Alien basic space (Creation of the world) has been used in distance seminars with students of the University of Thessaly, Department of Special Education and the Instructor Dr. Anastasia-Zoi Souliotou (Image 1). Also, there is a project in progress with students of the Art Secondary School of Gerakas, in collaboration with the teachers Konstantina Bolieraki, Varvara Spirouli, Valia Koutsouri, and Eleni Pavlitsenko (Image 2).
